Job Description
Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team, we are looking to increase our technical workforce and are seeking to recruit a Graduate Chemical Engineer to join our team in Bristol from January 26 onwards.
About our Team
At AECOM, our Nuclear Team provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry in the nuclear new build, decommissioning and defence sectors. In the new build sector, we are providing engineering support to the developers of the UK’s fleet of new nuclear power stations. In the decommissioning sector, which requires considerable new build to enable decommissioning, AECOM provides support to the entire Nuclear Estate in the UK, including multidisciplinary design support at Sellafield; the early-stage development of the Deep Geological Repository; design and development of waste storage and disposal facilities; and multidisciplinary design support to nuclear defence projects. In defence, we are currently engaged on a highly complex nationally significant project for a MoD client. The project requires AECOM to provide multidisciplinary design and engineering expertise to collaboratively deliver the project.
Here's what you'll do:
With an interesting and expanding pipeline of both international and UK based projects, as a Graduate Chemical Engineer, you will be required to both manage and report on your packages of work with support from experienced Chemical Engineers in the team, who will support in your continued development.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Write Process Descriptions.
- Produce Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Develop Mass and Enthalpy Balances.
- Create Equipment Schedules, Data Sheets and Sizing.
- Input into Design Risk Assessments.
- Attend client meetings where required.
- HAZOP scribe.
- Support process optimisation activities.
- Identify and report potential design changes.
- Ensure that HSE legislation is applied at a project level.
- Provide input to Quality Assurance audits as appropriate.
- Report non-conformities, incidents and observations through the appropriate systems.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an IChemE accredited University. Master’s level degree and/or an industrial placement would be an advantage
- Previous experience in the design and delivery of a system or design project at university.
- Ability to prepare written specifications.
- Desire to become a chartered Member of the IChemE.
- Previous work experience and/or membership of a group where you have had to work as a team.
- Willingness to engage in learning the relevant design tools, techniques and related methods.
- A basic understanding of design principles and ability to apply them.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present technical topics to an audience.
- Full UK driving license or equivalent that permits driving in the UK.
- Able to meet the requirements for security clearance in the UK.
