Job Description
AECOM US+LATAM Energy practice is seeking candidates for the position of Process Chief Engineer to lead our Process Engineering team in our Industrial and Generation department. The Process Chief Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and developing the team’s engineering capabilities with a key focus on refinery, NGL, and petrochemical processes; ensuring the execution, completeness and quality of engineering deliverables; supporting and leading business development activities, and providing strategic vision to improve the I&G department’s process engineering capabilities by identifying and hiring staff as needed and implementing continuous improvement techniques to increase efficiency and consistency in performance in accordance with AECOM Quality and Safety standards
Typical responsibilities include:
- General Management
- Provide general supervision of all process team members
- Assists Department Manager in assuring that Office and Corporate news, policies and procedures are both communicated and clearly understood through routine team meetings
- Promotes open and honest dialogue with and between team members.
- Promotes behavior-based safety and ensures team members have received all required Health & Safety training.
- Mentors team members in their execution and completion of tasks to meet project objectives
- Reviews and approves timesheets of team members
- Resource Management
- Identifies staff to support projects
- Adjusts workloads and schedules to balance project requirements with available resources
- Manages process work to keep team staff billable and meet growth objectives – includes helping team members to understand and meet sold time goals
- Anticipates when project requirements exceed available skill set or manpower capacity and develops plan of action with I&G Department leadership to address needs, whether through recruiting or training
- Anticipates when manpower capacity exceeds project requirements and works with the I&G Department leadership to develop/implement a plan of action to address overages
- Coordinates the hiring and successful integration of new employees
- Identifies, develops and provides resources required of team to satisfactorily perform work (i.e., computer hardware/software, work processes, literature, etc.)
- With support from Human Resources and Department Manager, implements any required disciplinary or warning actions, and resolves conflicts
- Career Development
- Provides mentorship, direction and career planning to team members
- Identifies appropriate training and professional development opportunities
- Conducts performance reviews
- Builds team member confidence to support growth towards new and greater responsibilities
- Quality Management
- Ensures staff comply with AECOM and Department work processes, standards and procedures.
- Identifies lessons learned with engineering work processes and recommends corrective action plan
- Supports project leadership during the detailed checking and ITR processes in compliance with QA procedures
- Assists Project Engineer in identifying and quantifying potential change orders to current project scope
- Working with Project Management, reviews or assigns review responsibility for all work products produced by team in accordance with QA/QC program requirements and specific client needs.
- Establishes an environment of excellence through appropriate and timely recognition of exceptional performance
- Business Development
- Provides guidance and input, as required by Department Manager, for development of annual business plan, mainly as pertains to expected growth and sold time of staff
- Supports proposals by developing an execution plan for the process needs of the project, including a comprehensive, detailed scope of work detailing the process work tasks and deliverables
- Develops budgets through an accounting of work tasks and associated manhours using the approved work item register
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Relevant engineering experience within industrial, refineries and/or power facilities
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in team supervision
- PE Licensure
- 10+ years relevant experience within industrial, refineries and/or power facilities
- 7+ years as technical lead on refinery or NGL projects
- Demonstrated experience with engineering analysis software (Aspen/HYSYS, Arrow, Fathom, Promax, Pipe-flo)
- Experience with HAZOPs
- Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating engineering and design for complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and teams
- Demonstrated experience in work process standardization and continuous improvement of engineering work product development
- Demonstrated experience in resource planning (labor forecasting, hiring, staff planning, labor cost estimating)
- Experience in supporting business development activities, including proposal work scope development and contributing in prospective client meetings and presentations when needed
- Passion in developing talented technical teams
- Experience in full EPC, Design/Build project.
- Experience in workshare with international engineering resource centers
- Field construction support, startup and commissioning experience
- Successful experience working in remote and multi-disciplined teams
- Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards
- Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Plant 3D, Navisworks)
