Job Description
AECOM GTA is currently seeking a Tunnel & Facility Ventilation and CFD Lead – Transit & Rail with specialized skills in Railway Systems, to join our Transit & Rail Systems Team and work with a multidisciplinary team delivering an existing and future portfolio of projects.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Design, design optimization and construction administration of Ventilation Fire & Life Safety systems for transit/highway tunnels, overbuilds, industrial, utility, commercial and process facilities.
- Working collaboratively with the Systems and TVS manager to develop team capability and expand to other sectors.
- Develop design criteria manuals, technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications, heating and cooling load calculations, and pressure loss calculations for such facilities.
- Leads sub-consultants and other disciplines to deliver project needs from FLS/TVS perspective.
- Develop ventilation concepts and strategies for the determination of tenability and fire life safety requirements using 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Optimize ventilation capacities using CFD, space proof, layout and design tunnel ventilation equipment including equipment access and removal plans.
- Develop mode of operations table and systems integration with control and monitoring systems.
- Work in multidisciplinary teams, review SMEP design drawings to correctly develop models that accurately reflect the tunnels network, station(s) and facilities.
- Reviewing and validating project documents to understand client's requirements and needs.
- Help grow the tunnel vent and underground practice in the firm by the development of pursuit strategies, technical concepts, and proposal technical approaches
- Help identify, attract, and assist in recruiting additional staff.
- Mentor junior tunnel ventilation engineers to strengthen the tunnel ventilation center of excellence.
- Publish technical articles in ISAVFT, ASHRAE and other international conferences.
- Coordinates and provides technical expertise for mid- large-size projects.
- Helps lead technical client relationships and plays a major role in projects.
- Helps lead discipline department efforts to grow technical expertise.
- Helps lead technical business development work
- Leads technical team as per projects needs and requirements
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in a Mechanical Engineering + 8+ years of relevant experience in Rail Systems, Tunnel Ventilation, Fire & Life Safety and computational and experimental
- P Eng or eligibility
- Driving License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fifteen (15) years of tunnel Ventilation and underground structures-related experience.
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or above.
- fluid dynamics
- Certified user ANSYS CFD
- Extensive experience with Regulatory requirements for tunnel ventilation and fire safety, including experience in railways and underground spaces, including NFPA 130 and NFPA 502.
- Extensive experience with systems engineering, integration, equipment testing and implementation.
- Thoroughly knowledgeable of various tunnel ventilation methods and techniques.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of CFD modelling and the ability to mentor and oversee work by Junior engineers.
- Membership with relevant professional organizations, PEng is required
- Publications in technical journals, conferences, and seminars.
- Ability and willingness to work hybrid and be present in the project office.
- Technical report preparation and supervision of less experienced engineers, designers, and technicians
- Experienced in mechanical and electrical performance quantification of tunnel ventilation equipment.
- Experienced in load and energy modelling, Revit and facilities MEP design requirements.
- In-depth understanding and a proven track record in the application of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer governing equations.
- Collaborate with National Tunnel and Underground Engineering Practice Risk and Quality Leaders to recommend Risk Management Plan and Quality Plan on projects.
