Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our thriving, multidisciplinary Water Resources Structural Engineering team based in our New Orleans office.

AECOM’s Global Water Resources Team is involved in high profile, industry leading infrastructure projects throughout the United States and beyond, including a variety of significant projects at the State and Federal level.

The AECOM New Orleans office works closely with the State of Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, CPRA and the New Orleans District US Army Corps of Engineers as well as other state agencies and districts of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

This important role offers participation in a variety of challenging projects including flood protection, pump stations, ports, locks, dams, and other hydraulic structures for water conveyance and water treatment.

Key responsibilities of the position are expected to include:

  • Lead Structural Engineer on projects, may include reviewing project designs, plans and specifications.
  • Providing specialized technical input on water-related projects.
  • Managing structural projects, including design tasks and coordination of work with multi-disciplined engineering staff within AECOM and our joint venture partners.
  • Experience in preparation of proposals, technical specifications and design documents, report writing, technical engineering support, and limited support and inspection during construction.
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
  • Perform condition assessments and site visits as needed.

    Qualifications

     Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 10 + years' experience in structural design.
    • Master's degree in structural engineering.
    • Project management skills.
    • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, including technical report writing.
    • Structural problem analysis skills (including knowledge/use of design and calculation tools and software).
    • Knowledgeable of other standard engineering practices, techniques, and applicable codes, such as ACI, ASIC, ASCE, AASHTO, and various USACE Engineering Manuals.
    • Knowledge of current structural modeling software tools including finite element analysis.
    • A current PE license in the State of LA, TX, or others.
