Job Description
AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an entry level Environmental Scientist to join our Minneapolis, Minnesota Remediation team. We are seeking candidates who can immediately contribute to the successful delivery of existing projects and have a desire to promote growth in existing and new markets. This full-time position within our Environmental group will support site investigation/remediation projects.
This position is expected to begin in September/October 2025.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate field project experience, require a strong focus on health and safety, be detail orientated, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, can work independently, and will be capable of working collaboratively in a high-performance team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater, and sediment sample collection and geological logging and interpretation.
- Task or project management and lead teams for field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater, and sediment sample collection and geological logging and interpretation.
- Working with subcontractors to deliver services according to contract requirements while adhering to company and client safety standards.
- Assisting with gathering and analyzing geological and hydrogeological data in both the field and office settings.
- Assisting in preparation of written reports, work plans, remedial action plans, site investigation reports, site closures, site management plans, and technical memorandums; analysis of data; and development of supported conclusions.
- Assisting in preparation and implementation of work plans, cost estimates, data compilation/analysis, and report preparation (text, tables, figures, and calculations).
- Performing independent hands-on fieldwork, oversee contractors (laboratory personnel, drillers, and surveyors), and other field personnel, and interacting with clients/client representatives.
- Utilizing basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
- Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Assisting with landfill compliance monitoring, including reporting of groundwater and landfill gas remedial systems performance and monitoring data.
- Assisting in the preparation of Health and Safety Plans and identifying hazard recognition during field assignments.
- Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in the Geological, Hydrogeological, or Environmental Sciences.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
- Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the environmental remediation industry (private or public).
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues, and sub-contractors alike.
- Flexible with working hours and locations; frequent travel within 1-2-hour drive of home office and occasionally further.
- Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks.
- Strong research and report writing (including web-based research).
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Strong quality and time management.
- Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.
- Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.
- Proficient with basic computer programs; Microsoft Suite Programs.
Additional Information
- Relocation assistance and/or per diem is not available for this position.
- This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The selected candidate must be available to work in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a scheduled basis.
- Travel up to 25% is required for this position.
- Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
