Job Description
AECOM's West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a senior-level Community Engagement Specialist III to lead public involvement and community engagement on major transportation projects in the planning, design and construction phases for clients. This role will be based in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Creates Public Involvement, Community Engagement and Communications Plans/strategies and executes related campaigns/outreach.
- Leads implementation of stakeholder engagement, community engagement and communication strategies.
- Identifies and maps key stakeholders for client projects. Conducts in depth research and investigation including stakeholder and situational analysis and jurisdictional review.
- Collaborates with project teams to strategize on best practices and risk communications.
- Engages and informs stakeholders, communities, and residents on projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.
- Develops themes, core messages and collateral for multiple audiences, including digital users, the media, local communities, statutory bodies, technical groups, and elected representatives.
- Manages the drafting of content for e-newsletters, stakeholder communication, fact sheets, FAQs, exhibit content, and other materials as needed.
- Coordinates with other AECOM and client staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for public information.
- Plans logistics, execution and facilitation of public meetings, workshops, open houses, focus groups, pop-ups, stakeholder meetings and other community outreach events, both virtually and in-person.
- Develops presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
- Provides acute attention to detail in the development, management and tracking of stakeholder communications and feedback.
- Manages development of surveys and focus groups and other community engagement feedback mechanisms.
- Analyzes public feedback responses and makes recommendations to technical teams.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed objectives, budget and timescale with little/no supervision.
- Exercises sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers and develops relationships with key project contacts.
- Coaches entry-level/ mid-level staff members.
- Checks work of self and junior team members prior to seeking approval.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field, plus 4 years of community engagement/communications experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant experience managing multiple projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to understand technical project information, develop an outreach strategy related to that information, and oversee the tasks within that strategy to execution.
- Ability to manage, delegate, and QC work products from sub-discipline contributors (graphic designers, technical writers, social media content developers, etc.) to ensure that the overarching strategy is maintained, all deadlines are met, and all work products meet client standards.
- Experience leading communications tasks on large infrastructure projects in the planning, design and construction phases.
- Experience working in or supporting public involvement/community outreach functions in the construction and/or transportation engineering industry.
- Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within company.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
