Job Description
Aecom is hiring a Senior Structural Designer – Highways in our Burnaby or Kelowna office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide complete structural design package including drawings, quantities, contract documents and cost estimates.
- Project manage structural design projects from planning through design and construction.
- Lead proposals and teaming for structural design, assessment and inspections assignments.
- Provide design reports including criteria, intent, constructability, and staging.
- Lead and assist with the development of project scope, schedule, and budget alongside project manager and other team members.
- Perform field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with contract documents and design intents.
- Develop project specific design specification and criteria including use of CAD and other software.
- Organize and lead project meetings with client and public.
- Assist with the preparation of regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring for junior staff.
- Develop and train others in the field of CAD structural designs per provincial standards.
- Prepare design and construction status reports for client and project teams.
- Ability to lead a team of professionals, as well as liaise with clients and subconsultants.
- Propose opportunities and assist with business development and highway engineering team building in BC.
- Implement corporate policies related to quality management and sustainable legacies.
- Supporting AECOM’s vision, values and key business development priorities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Technical Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering Design and/or Drafting Technology.
- Minimum 8 years experience in structural design: bridges, culverts and retaining walls.
- Certified with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
- Experienced in planning and managing scope and schedule for structural engineering design projects.
- Experienced with the applications of BC Provincial Standard Specifications, BC Bridge Standards and Procedures and Supplement to Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ideally extensive experience with Ministry of Transportation BC projects (MOTI)
- Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes
- Ability to interpret application of Motor Vehicle and Transportation Acts
- Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
