Job Description
AECOM is seeking a talented Project Engineer to support our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice based in Rocky Hill, CT.
The selected employee will have a primary focus on water/wastewater/water resources utility planning, design, condition assessment, and mapping for state, municipal, and private clients. The candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including site investigations, field measurements, utility investigations, capacity studies, condition assessments, conceptual through final design, cost estimating, and construction administration/observation. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to develop professionally through frequent collaboration with senior engineers, project manager, clients, regulatory agencies, and industry-leading subject matter experts, and attendance at professional conferences.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Provides technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, water line and collection line design, rehabilitation, master planning, and construction administration.
- Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
- Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
- Utilize basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
- Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
- Perform work with little supervision.
- Propose approaches to solve new problems.
- Identify discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
- Provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
- Record field data using tablets and GPS units.
- Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Perform data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction.
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
- Software use includes, but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office programs.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in planning, modeling, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects.
- Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, and design.
- Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
- Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
- Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
- Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities / work schedules.
