Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer - Aviation to be based in Hunt Valley, MD.
This position is expected to start Spring or Summer 2025.
The position involves planning, design, engineering, and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning, layout, and site design, earthwork analyses and design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design, pavement design and maintenance, construction safety and phasing, aircraft layouts and modeling, storm water management design, erosion and sediment control design, utility coordination and design, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts civil engineering design for airport projects.
- Completes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities.
- Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements.
- Prepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
- Collects and analyzes data to support design and construction phases of projects.
- Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3D.
- Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Performs construction administration and construction inspection.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.
- Assists in the development of airport master plans and layout plans.
- Participates in site visits to assess existing conditions and gather field data.
- Contributes to the preparation of environmental impact assessments for airport projects.
- Assists in the development of pavement management systems for airport facilities.
- Participates in project meetings and helps prepare meeting minutes and action items.
- Supports the development of grant applications for airport improvement projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this role.
- Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- As a condition of employment, candidate must pass client required background check(s).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Software.
- Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design software.
- Experience in performing construction administration and inspection.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
- Ability to work in both an office and field (construction) environment.
