Job Description
AECOM’s Chelmsford, MA office is seeking a talented Technical Lead for the Track discipline with freight and transit clients including CSX, Norfolk Southern, Amtrak and regional freight carriers and transit agencies. The Rail/Track Engineer will perform civil design on a variety of freight/transit projects as well as provide guidance for public projects on freight railways. In addition, the ideal candidate will provide coordination for stations and industry facility projects and develop conceptual designs for client presentations.
Candidate will be responsible for project design delivery including preparation of design documents, development of specifications, cost estimates and project schedules. Will be able to prepare technical reports and analyses, oversee and manage work within the ROW for multiple projects, and work with other track staff to manage projects.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead identifying opportunities for railway and transit design, scoping, studies, and construction, projects.
- Coordinates and provides technical expertise for mid-large projects.
- Lead technical client relationships related to track design, track construction, and phasing of work.
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
- Review and approves track designs prepared by others.
- Develop estimates for the track engineering budgets.
- Assist in determining schedules to perform track work.
- Coordinate with multiple departments related to a projects scope of work.
- Can lead and contribute to develop procurement specifications.
- Perform field track inspections and develop criteria and testing requirements.
- Position will require interstate travel as needed for site and coordination meetings.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements;
- BA/BS in Civil Engineering plus six years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
Preferred Qualifications;
- 10 years’ experience on rail and transit projects
- Expertise with Bentley OpenRail and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Knowledge of FRA, DOT, AREMA and local railroad/transit criteria
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to lead meetings related to track.
- Ability to travel to meet with clients and attend site meetings.
- Ability to be ROW safety trained and meet FRA criteria to be on active railroad sites.
