Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a full time Area Manager for our New England Remediation Group, which is part of the Remediation East regional team. The group includes staff who are in New England states and serves utility, industrial and government clients in the eastern United States.
The Area Manager position is a hybrid work model and the person must be based in, or willing to relocate to the New England area.
Primary projects include serving federal agencies, municipalities, state, industrial, and power sector clients in the northeast on a wide variety of remediation projects including PFAS, chlorinated solvent sites, sediment, MGP, landfill groundwater monitoring and modeling, and other contaminated site management activities.
In addition, the group provides Risk Assessment, Geosciences, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil engineering and permitting services for federal installations across the US, sediment projects throughout the northeast, industrial development, transportation projects, substations, pipelines and a variety of remediation projects.
The ideal candidate is a project manager with experience on complex technical projects with experience with due diligence, RI/FS, permitting, design of remedial systems and complex remedies.
The job responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Provides leadership and direction through managers and professional staff and leads efforts to grow company technical expertise.
- Responsible for the financial performance of the department.
- Review of proposals for technical and financial content.
- Business plan development and financial tracking/management.
- Advise regional business managers on growth, staff recruitment and retention, and technical excellence strategies.
- Recruits and helps retain staff at all levels.
- Maintain technical role as project manager, lead verifier or technical lead as appropriate.
- Lead or support business development opportunities.
- Anticipate and solve both routine and unusual operations problems, determining operational objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
- Drives execution of tactical business plans with direction from a region business line leader for growth and profitability of regional business line, implementation and execution of global business line strategy and programs.
- Drives regional business line business development activities, regional client management for business line and manages regional business line resources Provides input into strategic/operating plan.
- Directs the work of associates performing different tasks under the same field.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of all aspects of field of expertise, along with interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Construction Management or related field + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership
- Valid US Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must pass the AECOM Motor Vehicle screening
- As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a drug screen
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Construction Management or related field
- 11+ years of experience in geosciences investigations and studies, remediation remedy permitting and/or design and construction phase services or construction
- Demonstrated understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, foresight, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high quality technical excellence
- Previous experience with managing technical staff
- Previous experience in fiscal management and reporting for complex projects, or cost centers
