Job Description

AECOM is seeking an initiative-taking senior mechanical engineer with a mechanical engineering background in industrial pumping and piping systems to be based in the Denver, Colorado office, to support projects in both the feasibility and detailed design phases. This position will also require the leadership and ability to guide a team of engineers and designers to support projects.

Job Summary/ Responsibilities:

  • Development and oversight in the development of calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, construction specifications, and final working drawings for heavy industrial pumping and piping systems.
  • Development and oversight of design documents including technical specifications, equipment and piping layouts, pipeline alignment plan and profiles, materials specifications, equipment specifications and vendor data requirements.
  • Working with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings such as general arrangements, piping orthographic drawings, piping isometrics, pipeline plans and profile/alignment sheets.
  • Development and oversight for detailed technical bid analyses for mechanical equipment such as pumps, tanks, valves, and piping components.
  • Review of vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards as well as project-specific requirements.
  • Support the construction team by supporting the request for information (RFI) process by coordinating with project team to provide responses to RFI’s by providing requested information and/or provide clear design solutions within construction documents.
  • Developing reports in Microsoft Word to communicate the technical results of calculations or design packages, including summaries, figures, tables, methodologies, and explanations.
  • Perform technical reviews of studies and design documentation in addition to participating in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables by performing quality control review of design calculations, 3D models and drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience in generation of engineering proposal estimates and scoping for heavy industrial pumping and piping based projects.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule as well as independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering scope.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually and in a team environment both verbally as well as in written communications with team members outside of the home office.
  • Provides engineering guidance and oversight to staff level engineers and designers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience and or demonstrated equivalency of education and or experience
  • PE Certification
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years or more of relevant industry experience
  • PE in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, or the ability to acquire a PE in any of these States within 6 months.
  • Ability to PE stamp construction drawings and / or reports.
  • On-site field experience in commissioning and start-ups for pump stations.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in mechanical pipe stress modeling using industry standard software programs in conformance with codes and standards as well as project requirements.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in mechanical engineering systems for pump and piping design, modeling, and construction documentation.
  • Demonstrated progressive project experience including task leadership on design and design-bid-build projects.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in working with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings.
  • Technical resource to serve as technical reviewer and advisor for mechanical pumping and piping systems with strong written and oral communication and people skills.
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule as well as track and manage task budgets and schedules.
  • Must be resourceful, highly organized, professional with attention to detail and people.
