Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Dams and Reservoirs H&H Lead for our Orange, California office. This Senior Engineer will support our dams and surface water business both within, and outside of the US. We are looking for an engineer with strong civil, hydrologic and hydraulic skill sets to work with our multidiscipline teams to deliver challenging water resources projects related to civil design, dam design, hydraulic design of spillways, outlet works and hydropower plants, development of surface water models (scour and sediment transport), development of EAPs, dam breach studies, development of hydrologic models (frequency and extreme storm events), and associated reporting.

  • Provides technical leadership for a specialty and is considered to be a fully capable professional in their field.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences.
  • Resolves important questions and plans and coordinates work.
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually result from progressive experience.
  • Identify opportunities, prepare technical proposals, work with clients and actively participate in Business Development with Federal and Non-Federal clients.
  • Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control
  • Intermittently engage on regional projects with other offices in the region.
  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.

 

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling using various software packages (HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), FLOW-3D, HEC-HMS and SRH-2D)
  • Analysis and design of spillways and outlet works on dams
  • Production and review of technical reports and memorandums
  • Task management/project management
  • Mentoring and training staff
  • Providing technical leadership 
  • Coordinating with other technical disciplines including geotechnical, structural, and environmental
  • Face to face interaction with clients
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and 8+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer in California (or ability to obtain PE license within 6 months of hire)
  • 10+ years of relevant water resource related experience
  • 10+ years’ experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling concepts and principles
  • Proven experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and their interfaces with ArcGIS, FLOW-3D and SRH-2D)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and computation skill
  • Ability to work with a team consisting of several technical disciplines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design
