Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Plumbing / Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Roanoke, VA office.  As a member of our team of specialized plumbing engineers, you will be responsible for the design and integration of water, sanitary, storm, medical gas, fuel oil, and sustainable plumbing systems. Our group is focused on automation and continuous process improvement, utilizing advanced industry standard tools.  

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate on complex engineering projects, performing detailed design tasks for water distribution, sanitary and stormwater management, medical gas systems, and fuel oil infrastructure
  • Develop innovative and sustainable water solutions, incorporating automation to improve efficiency and accuracy in design processes
  • Leverage software such as Revit, Plant 3D, and Dynamo for advanced modeling and design automation
  • Propose and implement modifications to standard engineering procedures to solve unique design challenges
  • Provide plumbing designs in accordance with local codes and criteria as well as federal DOD (UFC) criteria
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in project data or design results
  • Guide and mentor entry-level engineers, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment
  • Manage project tasks and deliverables in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules with minimal supervision
  • Utilize industry trends and innovations in plumbing systems and automation to design systems for a variety of clients

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering plus four (4) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Developmental experience in a professional engineering position, primarily in plumbing systems design
  • Strong understanding of Revit, Plant 3D, Dynamo, and coding for automation purposes is highly preferred
  • Eligibility to obtain or current possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Previous experience with UFC and DOD criteria
