Junior Software Developer (Modelling & Simulation)

Job Description

  • Working on the clients Persistent Distributed Synthetic Training (DST) Range project (Persistent DST Range);
  • Provide updates to DST Range activities on the clients Dashboard, a Microsoft SQL Server database with a custom web interface deployed to the Defence Wide Area Network (DWAN) and integrated with Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint;
  • Coordinate with technical personnel (Core Services Section) regarding Technical requirements / calendar space required of an assigned Requests For Synthetic Effects (RFSE), Persistent DST Range activity or other initiative;
  • Undertake communication with the client participants and external stakeholders;
  • Coordinate the use of Persistent DST Range activities as a Force Development – to – Force Generation pathway in support of the clients natural training partnerships;
  • Support Exercise Director and Lead Planners where required, particularly for Canadian-hosted DST exercises and activities;
  • Become competent with applicable software used in the scenario development, hosting, and refinement of the client Persistent DST Range capability.

Qualifications

  • Has a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics OR has a College Technical Diploma related to Information Technology, Software Development, or Computer Science
  • Minimum 1 year experience in an applicable field of software development
  • Minimum 1 year experience performing the role of a Software Developer
  • Experience deriving functional requirements in a modelling and simulation environment
  • Experience designing simulation software in a modelling and simulation environment
  • Experience programming graphics using OpenGL, QT or equivalent product
  • Experience developing add-ons, extensions, or plug-ins
  • Experience designing, coding and testing using C++, C, or C# programming languages
  • Experience integrating and testing software
  • Experience investigating software products for use and integration into M&S applications
  • Generated test plans and procedures as well as written test reports in a “modelling and simulation environment

Additional Information

  • Able to go onsite 5 days a week in the NRC
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret level Clearance
