Job Description

Opportunities exist for highly skilled and result driven Environment & Safety  Controller in International Breweries Welwitschia Brewery, reporting to the Environment & Safety Manager. The successful incumbent will manage, provide leadership and guidance in the implementation of plans to provide the plant with a comprehensive and professional Occupational Health and Safety System, ensuring compliance to Safety systems, standards and work practices to achieve targets set for the VPO Safety & Environment Pillar, and Safety & Environment KPI’s. Will also lead related site Environment & Safety initiatives, ensuring Corporate Governance and integrity, and adherence to all the relevant Environmental and Safety Standards and Legislation.​

 Key roles and responsibilities​

  • Ensuring compliance to the applicable Occupational Health & Safety Act and Environment Act​
  • Responsible for the management and implementation of the Safety & Environment VPO Pillar in the plant and associated wet depot / warehouse​
  • Monitor and analyse leading Safety & Environment KPI’s and implement interventions to improve​
  • Create awareness of occupational safety and the VPO Safety and Environment programme​
  • Conduct audits and reviews of the site related to the VPO Safety and Environment Pillar and legal compliance​
  • Maintain documentation such as SOP’s, as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and procedures as related to safety and Environment ​
  • Identify safety and Environment legal training needs, arrange and co-ordinate​
  • Ensure induction of both employees and contractors take place in accordance with standards​
  • Manage Safety and Environment related Capex portfolio and ZBB of the Safety and Environment team​
  • Ensure the application of Safety and Environmental standards to Capex projects and their safe execution ​
  • Drive closure of investigations of safety and environmental gaps and legal compliance in the plant​
  • Monitor and investigate selected insurance claims in liaison with the Corporate Risk Team​
  • Ensure the site is adequately secured and manage the contracted security provider​
  • Maintain a safe, healthy and risk free working environment​
  • Provide leadership in the application of quality principles and techniques across the environmental chain​
  • Support and coach team members, assess team members on SKAP ​
  • Develop and manage the plant Stakeholders including dealing with Local Authorities​
  • Conduct audits, interpret results and disseminate information to ensure operational efficiency​

Qualifications

  • A tertiary degree is essential - BSc or BTech in a related field​
  • >2 years experience in a FMCG environment with exposure to WCM, Safety and Engineering fields essential​

Key competencies

  • Ideal candidate would have experience in managing NOSA integrated system​
  • Thorough understanding of ABInBev Safety, Health & Environmental Management Systems (VPO) - (SAMTRAC or NEBOSH) would be an advantage​
  • Excellent knowledge of industrial safety and environmental rules and regulations​
  • Strong technical skills in identifying safety and operational non-compliances​
  • Experience in conducting investigations in safety incidents, identifying root causes and developing preventative and corrective actions (Incident Investigator)​
  • Excellent presentation, report drafting, and problem-solving skills​
  • Experience in coaching, training and guiding teams​
  • Strong interpersonal skills with track record of managing people and relationships to obtain desired results
  • Reports to (Solid Line):​ Environment and Safety Manager
