Job Description
As a Graduate Real Time and Embedded Software Engineer, you will support the development of AB Dynamics’ automotive test equipment, including track-based solutions (e.g., driving robots and ADAS targets) and laboratory-based systems (e.g., SPMM, ANVH, SSTM). Your primary responsibilities will be to assist in designing, developing, and deploying embedded software, ensuring high performance and real-time capabilities.
Alongside your home-team specialism, you’ll take part in our structured 18‑month graduate rotation programme, giving you broad exposure to disciplines across the business and helping you build a strong foundation for your engineering career.
This is a permanent role, with rotations designed to deepen your understanding of our products while giving you the confidence, capability, and technical breadth to progress within AB Dynamics.
Real-time & Embedded:
- Assist in defining, designing, and implementing software architectures for automotive test systems.
- Support the development and deployment of software solutions across track and lab-based products.
- Help implement software standards and best practices for development and deployment.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering to ensure compliance with safety and security standards.
- Participate in troubleshooting and resolving software issues, optimizing performance and reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by researching emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of software into products.
Rotations:
- Perform 3-month ‘rotations’, in several areas across the business to gain a wider understanding
- Investigate complex technical issues, identifying and developing solutions in a variety of disciplines.
- Work with customers, performing demonstrations and improving their understanding of our products.
- Develop transferrable skills, delivering progress update presentations and undergoing company organised trainings.

Qualifications
- On-track to achieve a 2:1 or higher in a relevant engineering discipline – including, but not limited to, Systems, Automotive, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, Mechanical or Robotics Engineering
- Basic understanding of hardware and software systems, ideally in an automotive or robotics context.
- Basic proficiency in Python (for automation, test control, and data analysis), or other programming languages.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team
- Confident and effective communicator with a good level of written and oral English
- Able to manage and prioritise multiple demands
- A valid UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to test sites as required.
- Motivated to learn and develop a broad range of engineering skills.
