Salary: circa £40,000 – £42,000 p.a.
ECO or Out of Hours available which is calculated via SOR’s based on a Rate of £16.00ph.
The FOT (Field Operations Technician) can either take use of a Company Van & Fuel Card or take a Vehicle Allowance of £400pcm.
Company:
The company is a property maintenance and installation organisation, the Mechanical arm specialises in the servicing, repair and installation of gas central heating and hot water services to local authorities and Housing Association landlords.
It is a well established Gas Contractor who operating across London and surrounding areas with an unrivalled reputation within the building services sector which includes Gas, M&E and HVAC maintenance, repair and installation work.
Role:
As part of a heating maintenance team the post holder will be expected to support a team of repairs and/or maintenance operatives who provide services in commercial plant rooms and dwellings, including heating installations and appliances in client properties. You will be able to assist and advise the area Team on work progress, monitor the operative’s performance, and produce improvement plans where required, provide technical support, identify any training needs within the team. You will be customer focused, with good leadership and communication skills, and carry out your work in a professional manner and to a high standard in compliance with and in accordance with current regulation / legislation.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities that the role carries include but are not limited to the below;
- To support and monitor a team of operatives who service, repair, maintain and install gas and heating plant and appliances in buildings, properties and dwellings, working in accordance with manufacturer’s instruction and guidance.
- Main duties include assisting and advising members of the area Team on work progress servicing, general repair/maintenance of breakdowns of plant and associated equipment, including appliances and heating systems of client premises.
- Ensure the correct resources and materials are supplied for each job.
- Deliver all PPM and cyclical maintenance programmes, ensuring all records are updated within the NAV system and engineers PDA’s
- Monitor engineer’s performances and their time management through the management information available, engineer KPI’s, parts usage and management, resource and labour costs including managing top up hours and advise the FOM on resource planning
- Ensure the security and correct operation of plant and equipment supplied, to include vehicles, flue gas analysis meters and mobile data equipment i.e. PDA’s.
- Ensure all certification and documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with Data Protection and Information Security regulations.
- Able to identify training needs for engineers and implement where necessary
- Must be able to survey and estimate any project works, and maintain the associated administration processes
- Ensure engineers are utilising the PDA’s are utilised for parts ordering and appointment making
- Ensure engineers use the PDA for all works, both non and chargeable to capture all relevant and required information to allow correct costings and invoicing values
- You must regularly monitor the operatives stock, resources and materials supplied and ensure all stock levels are in line with the company requirement. If any stock levels are found to be in excess of the target, audits are to be undertaken
- Regular monitoring of first time fix and call back rates will be in place to ensure standards and service levels are maintained.
- Have a high level of literacy and numeracy to enable the various calculations associated with all works to be completed along with the dissemination and relation of manufacturer’s instructions
- Have a logical and methodical approach to problem solving and fault diagnosis, and the ability to stay focused and have the mental concentration to follow a problem through to a satisfactory outcome.
- Ensure the cost per property and call for both labour and materials is in line with the target set
- Have a sound knowledge of Customer Care and possess the ability to deal with potentially angry or upset people and be able to cope with the emotional demands dealing with such situations could cause.
- Willing and able to work as part of a team and independently showing initiative dealing with situations and completing tasks.
- To effectively communicate with the team, clients to explain the correct operation of all pant and associated equipment and the importance of regularly servicing plant, and any gas appliances/plant/equipment.
- Ability to work to deadlines and timescales and liaise with managers and clients regarding changes to schedules or appointments.
- Ensure all appointments are met within the required timeframe, and work completions are within the targets set.
- All engineers in the team are managed through management information and KPI’s to maximise their performance
- All toolbox talks issued by the business and are communicated with on a regular basis so any changes to processes are delivered in the required timescales.
- Work with the central admin teams on a daily basis ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, replying in a timely fashion, either telephone or email, having regular meetings with the FOM’s and admin teams, attending the Ewell office on a regular basis and frequency.
- Monitor and report any resource requirements to the ESS team on a daily basis, ensuring the team is resourced fully at all times, ensuring your team is fully resourced and all holidays are planned in advance.
- Be willing and able to work with and train apprentices or other personnel as required.
- Any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Line Manager or head of dept.
- To visit and check works in progress as directed.
- Check completed works for safe operation and confirmation of compliance with Gas Safe requirements and current safety regulations with specific regard to Regulation 26/9 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
- Validate all certificates as requested.
- Check quality of work/time on site as requested.
- Report on tasks performed/parts fitted as particularly requested.
- Advise on customer satisfaction as requested.
- Liaise with client/agents as required.
- Investigate and write reports as required by the business within the required timescales.
- Assess workmanship/Attitude.
- Complete documentation and check on site documentation

Qualifications / Experience:
- ACS qualifications - minimum of CCN1, CEN1, WAT1, (CENWAT), CKR1, CPA1, CODNCO1, CDGA1, CIGA1, CORT1, ICPN1, TPCP1, BMP1 & MET4
- IOSH 1-day ‘Working Safely’ Training Certificate (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience
- Experience of working in a multi-sited company
- Experience of high volume, high pressure environments
- Previous experience in similar role
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
- Full driving licence
- Excellent communication skills
- Flexible and willing to take on additional tasks when required
- Able to work alone and within a team
- Keeping up to date technically and applying new knowledge to your role
