Job Description

The company is hiring its first dedicated Controller to build and own the finance function across two operating entities. This is a build role, not a maintenance role. The company has strong revenue, loyal blue-chip customers, and a capable bookkeeper who currently closes the books for both entities. What it needs is the financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting that a company at this scale requires. You will establish that foundation: cleaning up the general ledger, rebuilding the standard costing model, and standing up a disciplined month-end close. Once the accounting house is in order, you will layer on budgeting, forecasting, and the operational reporting the leadership team needs to make capital allocation and growth decisions. You will work directly alongside the CEO and COO, operate in an open-office, factory-adjacent environment, and spend real time on the manufacturing floor. This is an opportunity to put your fingerprints on an entire finance function at a company that is growing and investing in doing things the right way.

Key Responsibilities

Reconstruct and align the Chart of Accounts across both entities. Own the general ledger, enforce a disciplined month-end close, and bring reporting up to audit-ready standards. Design and implement internal controls for inventory custody, cash disbursements, AP, and payroll. Establish SOPs that professionalize financial operations across both facilities. Tear down and rebuild the standard costing model. Partner with the Plant Manager(s) to audit and correct Bills of Materials and labor routings so that product costs reflect reality. Partner with the Inventory and Planning team to implement cycle counting and scrap tracking programs. Own inventory valuation and ensure the numbers in the ERP match the materials on the floor. Deliver true gross margin analysis by SKU and customer, stripping away allocations to reveal actual unit economics. Provide the leadership team with clear, actionable visibility into commercial profitability. Build dynamic financial models in Excel (3-statement models, 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts) and lead the company's first formal annual budgeting process, including monthly budget-vs-actuals reporting. Develop and track a unified set of operational and financial KPIs (scrap rates, inventory turns, gross margins, customer profitability) to support strategic decision-making across both entities. Manage the relationship with the outside CPA/tax firm and coordinate on tax payments, compliance, and any future external audit preparation. Oversee the existing bookkeeper and office staff who handle day-to-day transaction processing, close activities, and payroll across both entities. Coach the team through process changes with patience and clear communication.
