Job Description

350 Wisconsin is looking for an individual eager to grow professionally and help take our justice work to the next level. This position is appropriate for someone interested in helping shape an energetic, up-beat, and growing nonprofit organization. 

The Climate Justice organizer’s mission is to help 350 Wisconsin continue to build a powerful anti-racist climate movement through education, internal policies, practices, community partnership, and bringing a racial & socio-economic justice perspective to our 350 Wisconsin work. The Climate Justice Organizer should be someone who is passionate about the Climate Justice mission and will support 350 Wisconsin's goals of equity, inclusivity, and climate justice. 

This position will work collaboratively with 350 Wisconsin’s volunteer teams, staff and Board of Directors to achieve the Climate Justice goals of 350 Wisconsin.  We recognize that those who are least responsible for climate change are bearing the worst consequences of it, and we strive to reduce the climate injustices affecting the most vulnerable communities around the world. We are working to include more diverse perspectives, people and communities in our work, to develop broader solutions to climate change and address climate change impacts on vulnerable communities.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with 350 Wisconsin Teams on a range of climate change campaigns to strengthen justice, equity and inclusion considerations. In some cases actions may be organized that would have a primary focus on climate justice.

  • Community Outreach and Partnerships: Collaborate with 350 Wisconsin’s Climate Justice Team on community outreach and partnership development efforts, and to further develop relationships and alliances with BIPOC organizations and individuals.

  • Education and Communication: Working with the Climate Justice Team leads, the Board and staff, create and deliver educational opportunities on racism, climate justice, equity issues, and anti-racism. 

Employment Details

  • This is a 75% position, working 30 hours per week.  Work schedule is flexible, some weekend and evening work required.

  • Benefits include paid leave and health coverage. Mileage reimbursement is provided at the IRS-approved rate.

  • Pay: $32,760/annual

  • Reports to the Executive Director

  • 350 Wisconsin staff and volunteers are primarily located in the Madison, WI area.  The position will work remotely and access to a computer is needed. Occasional face-to-face meetings and outreach will be likely.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience (in a paid, educational or volunteer role) 

  • Working on justice and equity issues

  • Experience with grassroots organizing, such as facilitating meetings

  • Working with volunteer teams, including volunteer engagement and leadership development, especially with BIPOC and/or frontline-led organizations 

  • Developing and delivering equity, justice and inclusion education and trainings 

  • Knowledge of Wisconsin communities and cultures

Additional Information

Work Environment 

350 Wisconsin operates virtually, without a brick and mortar office. Most, but not all, members of the staff, board, and volunteers live in the greater Madison Wisconsin area. The position may require travel within Wisconsin for organizing meetings, events, political activities, training, one-to-one meetings, and other functions.

We encourage professional development and will provide opportunities to do so.

Physical Demands

Occasional physical demands include setting up for events, working on mailings, tabling at outreach events and filing. This would require the ability to carry 25 lbs; lift files; use hands to fold, stuff, seal, and stamp envelopes; open filing cabinets; and bend or stand as necessary. The physical demands also include driving.
