Job Description

The Process Engineer – Cell Manufacturing will be a key member of the high performing team in Rayong, Thailand.  The team member will help define process needs for critical production steps and collaborate with internal and external experts to identify, screen, and develop process concepts that meet these specs. This process engineer will also utilize and develop tool concepts for semi-solid electrode casting and unit cell assembly processes to meet specification and yield target. The role will focus heavily on day-to-day process control and continuous process improvement development. The team member will report to the Process Engineer Lead.

Qualifications

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Troubleshoot electrode casting and unit cell assembly processes and process equipment as issues arise.
  • Improve and fine tune vision system for electrode alignment and electrode defect inspection.
  • Perform equipment and process capability studies using six sigma methodology to identify areas of improvement.
  • Work hands-on with manufacturing equipment to identify the best process protocols, specifications, and opportunities for process yield and quality improvement.
  • Conduct engineering trials, document, and analyze manufacturing process records and experimental results. Present, share reports, and recommend new development pathways.
  • Manage continuous improvement projects.
  • Work cross-functionally with product and quality team to set product and process specifications.
  • Work closely with quality teams on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors and outside partners to develop new proof of concept equipment.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for powder and slurry processes. Train, guide, and define tasks for operators on day-to-day work.

 Required Skills and Experience 

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with battery electrode casting, laser cutting, heat lamination, and component-to-component alignment.
  • Deep understanding in laser sensor technology and vision inspection system
  • Deep understanding in web tension for roll-to-roll web process.
  • Experience in taking a process from lab to pilot scale or to high volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with continuous process improvement
  • Lithium-ion or semiconductor manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Certified Six Sigma Green and/or Black Belt preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Thai and English languages.
  • Highly motivated and action oriented as demonstrated by accomplishments.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment. 

Education 

  • BS or MS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent

Additional Information

Physical and Environmental Standards   

  • Capable of working in a low moisture dry room environment as required: < 1.0% Relative Humidity (-50°C dew point) 
  • Capable of wearing clean room attire when working in dry room environment: face mask, hair net, safety glasses, gloves, coverall suit and shoe covers 
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
