ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their growing firm. This role is ideal for a confident professional with extensive knowledge of Canadian tax and who enjoys managing complex files, reviewing staff work, and delivering high-quality client service in a collaborative environment.
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in corporate tax compliance, file review, and client support, while working closely with junior accountants who handle bookkeeping and simple tax preparation.
Job Description
Tax Preparation & Compliance:
Prepare approximately 100 complex personal tax returns (T1s) per year, including:
- Self-employed individuals, Multiple rental properties, Investment income, Employment expenses, Foreign income/assets, Complex deductions and credits
Prepare approximately 50–70 corporate tax returns (T2s) per year, including:
- Reviewing year-end working papers prepared by junior staff
- Preparing adjusting entries and tax-related adjustments
- Completing corporate schedules and filings
Review 300–400 simple personal T1 returns per year prepared by junior accountants to ensure accuracy, compliance, and firm standards.
Handle CRA correspondence and review letters, including:
- Communicating with clients to obtain supporting documentation
- Preparing responses and adjustments
- Liaising directly with the CRA as required
Client Management & Support
- Act as a primary point of contact for assigned clients.
- Communicate tax results clearly and professionally.
- Identify issues or risks and escalate as appropriate.
Team Support & Review
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior accountants.
- Review work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
- Assist with workflow efficiency and maintaining consistent processes.
- Perform other related accounting or administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting or related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience preparing personal and corporate tax returns in accordance with Canadian tax legislation and CRA requirements.
Strong working knowledge of:
- Canadian income tax legislation
- CRA compliance and correspondence
- Personal and corporate tax filings
Proven experience reviewing junior staff work.
Proficiency with:
- Tax software (TaxCycle)
- Accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop & Online)
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Workflow management tools (Karbon or similar)
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach.
Prior experience in a public accounting or professional services firm is required.

COMPENSATION
$75,000-85,000
