Located on McGill campus in downtown Montreal, the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently seeking applicants for a new part-time Accounting Clerk job opening. With over 20,000 members, SSMU’s role is to represent students and to offer services since 1908.

Job Description

Reporting to the Comptroller, the Accounting Clerk will be performing various clerical duties and book keeping for the SSMU.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Accounts Payable tasks: Perform clerical duties and data entry in accounting system for the SSMU or Daycare as determined by the Comptroller;

2) Accounts Receivable tasks: Perform clerical duties and data entry in accounting system for the SSMU or Daycare as determined by the Comptroller;

3) General ledger: Perform data entry in accounting system for the SSMU or Daycare as determined by the Comptroller;

4) Ensure appropriate filing;

5) Payroll tasks: Data entry as assigned by the Comptroller; Ensure appropriate approvals for all hours worked before data entry;

6) Work in collaboration with the Comptroller and the Accounting team to execute data entry in accounting and payroll improvement projects;

7) Report discrepancies and inaccurate information to the Comptroller.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Comptroller and, in their absence, the General Manager.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

1) High pressure work environment from both an operational and political perspective.

2) Equipment and systems used: Microsoft Office Environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Novell Environment (Groupewise, Vibe), Accpac, Gestionnaire.

Qualifications

1) Formal education: collegial degree in Accounting and/or Commerce;

2) Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in bookkeeping;

3) Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Excel required;

4) Intermediate knowledge or experience of Gestionnaire required;

5) Knowledge of ACCPAC is an asset;

6) Manual skills: ability to use computers;

7) Integrity, interpersonal skills, and high degree accuracy;

8) Excellent communication skills both in English and French desirable;

9) Attention to detail, high degree of professionalism and discrete.

  • Hours: On average 14 hours per week;
  • Hourly rate: $17.68 - $21.61 per hour;
