Job Description

The primary role of a Production Manager is to manage, motivate, monitor, and lead the daily activities of the Production, Shipping and Receiving areas of the Ohio Plant and the assigned personnel of those areas. The Production Supervisor will perform and/or delegate the following duties and any others reasonably assigned by the Plant Manager or his/her designee:

  • Ensure products are produced and activities are conducted in a safe, efficient, timely and cost conscious manner
  • Promote and ensure that a culture of safety, quality and pride exists
  • Analyze production schedules and estimate the labor requirements for completion per the schedule
  • Works with operations management to establish and /or update goals and metrics associated with machine and employee output, scrap, downtime, etc.
  • Actively and frequently communicate actual results of machine and employee metrics relative to goal and create sustainable action plans to overcome shortfalls to goal and/or other day to day business needs
  • Holds individuals accountable for work performance necessary to achieve goals and follow work instructions
  • Ensures each shift’s production data is consistently and properly recorded and entered into the appropriate spreadsheets/databases in a timely and accurate manner
  • Conducts meetings to review daily activity with direct and indirect personnel in an effort to communicate results, issues, upcoming events, etc.
  • Ensures inventory financial and location accuracy goals are communicated and processes in place and adhered to which support inventory location management and the cycle counting program
  • Maintains required staffing levels by recruiting and reassignment of personnel
  • Ensures all positions and day to day functions have an active cross-training program
  • Assess training needs and arrange for or provide training to ensure accurate and efficient operations and succession
  • Performs fact finding investigation, recommends course of action and maintains documentation of employee performance issues and leads administration of necessary progressive discipline consistent with Company policies and procedures
  • Maintains employee attendance records and administers counseling and/or progressive discipline
  • Evaluate employee performance and conduct performance reviews
  • Recommends/creates/revises systems and processes as needed in an effort to motivate employees and improve upon the operational efficiency of the assigned areas
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance and cleaning schedules are followed or developed and adhered to for production equipment
  • Ensure company assets (material, machines, people) are safeguarded and expenses are monitored for proper control (scrap, downtime, overtime)
  • Maintains quality and service by establishing and/or enforcing company policies and procedures
  • Implements, trains, and enforces LJ Smith/OSHA/EPA and other regulatory policies and procedures
  • Other tasks as assigned based upon the needs of LJ Smith and/or the customer.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the daily tasks and job duties bulleted above are as follows:

  • Ability to functionally use a personal computer to perform detailed inquires, update information, and print reports on a daily basis.
  • Must be able and willing to train, or assign to an experienced employee, new hires or new departmental transfers.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in working with subordinates and peers
  • Must be able and comfortable leading as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Must be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  • Ability to functionally interface with other departments as needed.
  • 1-3 years prior work experience in a manufacturing supervisory role is required
  • Post-secondary education is desirable in a management or continuous improvement track
  • Must be willing to work overtime, alternate shifts, and weekends as/if needed
