The US Division (USD) has an opening for a Financial Manager, reporting to the Division Associate Director of Finance. The Financial Manager will work with the USD Finance team to support pre-award and post-award management. The Financial Manager is responsible for advising the project directros and senior management on business matters related to fiscal viability, including annual projections, forecasting, profitability, contractual and other issues, as well as financial oversight of projects and G&A expenditures.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

•      Prepares, analyzes, and interprets financial reports such as project over/under spending analyses and estimates-to-complete, project financial status reports, and profit and loss statements; provides status updates to the Division Finance Director; and works closely with senior management and project leaders to determine action items

•   Develops budgets and supporting financial material for grant and contract submissions in compliance with RFPs/RFAs and EDC guidelines

•   Conducts periodic reviews of spending against accounts and works with project and portfolio leadership to develop appropriate course corrections

•   Prepares quarterly forecasts, generates quarterly fiscal reports for senior management, and presents an analysis of current status, with clear recommendations to senior management.  

•   Provides financial expertise to key leaders engaged in developing new business initiatives that require alternative financial models and business strategies

•      Provides sound financial advice to project directors, enabling effective management of accounts for obligated funding, in compliance with EDC policies and procedures

•      Understands and adeptly uses EDC enterprise systems to facilitate the execution of new grants/contracts

•      Advises project directors on matters of compliance and financial terms of grants/contracts in close coordination with EDC’s Office of Sponsored Programs

•      Performs other duties as required

The person in this position works collaboratively with USD senior and administrative staff and internal colleagues; develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and uses technology effectively to create efficiencies and streamline communications.  S/he is expected to communicate clearly and courteously, and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

•  Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Management or equivalent education and experience. An advanced degree is strongly preferred.

• At least 6-8 years of experience conducting financial analysis, preparing financial reports, and developing budgets. Experience developing and managing budgets for both federal and non-federal sponsors in a sponsored research, non-profit environment is preferred

• Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet modeling, including the ability to build dynamic spreadsheets with multiple variables, to create reports, summarize, and analyze data using Cognos or similar reporting software, Excel, and other spreadsheet and proprietary applications

•  Strong writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

•  Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines; attentiveness to detail
