Job Description

EDC has an opening for a Book Supply Chain Training Consultant for the USAID Global Book Alliance in Action Project. The training consultant will create a training resource to be delivered via a brief video that can be accessed on line and or via PDF for low bandwidth environments. The Consultant should have extensive knowledge of components the Book Supply Chain and be able to provide technical content for the training resource.

Training specifications
The training resource provides general information regarding the book supply chain, its components and challenges to implementing an effective Book Supply Chain in developing country contexts. It will comprise seven sections focused around the following:
1. What is the Book Supply Chain?
2. Why should I care about it? Why does it matter?
3. What are the key components of the Book Supply Chain?
4. Who are the key actors in the Book Supply Chain?
5. How are components of the Book Supply Chain interlinked and support each other?
6. Some of key challenges of the Book Supply Chain faced in developing world contexts
7. Activities to determine the specific challenges training participants face related to the Book Supply Chain in their country and next steps to addressing them.

The Training resource will be offered as a blended training with the first 6 sections covered via an online video resource followed by a face to face workshop for country teams (section 7). The consultant will contribute to the development of the training objectives and will be responsible for developing an outline of the training content and all content for the training resource. Consultant will incorporate feedback provided by Senior Training Specialist in order to finalize all documents.

Primary audiences for the training package:
· USAID mission staff (Education officers, AORs, CORs, etc.)
· Ministry of Education staff

Secondary audiences:
· In country providers involved in Book Supply Chain (e.g., publishers, writers, etc.)
· Implementing partners operating in the selected countries

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5-7 years relevant experience, or Master's degree or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience; experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including solid experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
· Excellent analytical skills and aptitude for details
· Experience working in the field of education, preferably in developing instructional materials;
· Must be able to work within a cross cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function well under pressure;
• Familiarity with multimedia techniques
· Knowledge of and experience with USAID-funded projects preferred but not required.
