Job Description

The Women’s Apparel Designer will lead and execute the creative process in designing customer-focused, innovative, and commercially viable product collections that deliver a strong value. This designer will be responsible for forecasting trends in fabric, color, and silhouette and interpreting this data into the Taylor Stitch handwriting, specifically owning the line development from initial concept through production phases.

Responsibilities 

  • Communicate a clear design point of view for the Taylor Stitch woman based on consumer insights, competitive analysis, and marketplace trends
  • Own the full design cycle of monthly workshop collections, limited edition capsules & evergreen essential assortments, architecting balanced & cohesive assortments
  • Source cost viable & high quality raw materials & manage seasonal fabric palettes
  • Engineer products to meet or exceed cost targets with a relentless focus on quality & innovation
  • Lead fittings utilizing strong technical design skills & working closely with patternmakers to achieve desired expression of fit while increasing production efficiencies
  • Diligently proof all technical packets before releasing for sampling and production
  • Order all sample materials in a timely manner & ensure development is executed per product calendar
  • Manage timely approvals of trims, prototypes, pre-preproduction & production samples
  • Constantly maintain a pulse on merchandising and design trends in the global and local marketplace in outerwear, woven & knit tops, woven & knit bottoms, and accessory product categories
  • Sustain effective partnerships with Merchandise Planning, Product Development and Production teams to keep team informed of development status


Qualifications

  • Expert in apparel construction, color theory, textiles & material construction with 3-5 years of experience in apparel design, wovens & outerwear a plus!
  • Strong knowledge of product costs and impact of design
  • Strong network of domestic & overseas material mills & full package manufacturers
  • Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present concepts to product teams and review boards in a persuasive manner.
  • Strong knowledge of product cycles & manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Design (apparel), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in flat sketching & hands-on experience with CAD software
  • Experience in creation of design packages and execution of product designs.
