Job Description

Under the management direction of the President's Office, the Campus Safety Manager will manage all safety related matters and work with the Campus Operations team to maintain the functional operations of the campus. The Campus Safety Manager must demonstrate strong leadership but must also be able to work collaboratively with other departments and managers. The position may require varying work hours and days including evenings and weekends and off-hours responses to incidents.

Responsibilities

To plan, develop, and manage the following functional areas: Campus Safety and Emergency Management.

Campus Safety & Emergency Management

  • Act as the head of Campus Security
    • Respond to incidents on campus; determine appropriate security responses to incidents; conduct investigations and write reports; contact and liaise with law enforcement authorities regarding crimes on campus, as appropriate.
    • Responsible for coordinating emergency response activities, including emergencies involving medical situations, hazardous materials, and natural disasters
  • Ensure the university is in full compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act
  • Supervise the University’s third party physical security vendor to provide all physical security support for the University campus
  • Conduct random patrols when not a call or working on administrative tasks
  • Coordinate resources with outside law enforcement agencies; cooperate with local law enforcement agencies in the prevention, control, and investigation of illegal activities affecting campus personnel, students, and facilities
  • Monitor surveillance system, campus access control door alarm system, and other systems in the security control office
  • Coordinate and oversee security and emergency procedures training for employees; implement hands-on drills and exercises to prepare for and assess the university’s readiness to respond to safety, security, and crisis situations
  • Analyze all accidents and regularly search for patterns in injury reports in order to establish corrective procedures to reduce the potential for future accidents
  • Chair Safety Committee and fulfill safety responsibilities to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Partner with the Campus Operations Manager to develop a fiscal year operating budget that reflects the priorities and needs of the Department of Facilities Development & Operations

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Ability to write detailed incident reports
  • Meticulous and able to multi-task
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Must have the technological, physical, and security training to deal with any level of potential need in the area of campus safety
  • Ability to stay calm during all types of emergencies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Law enforcement, military, or security experience
  • Experience with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act
  • Demonstrate the following: integrity, ethical conduct, teamwork, analytical skills, commitment to excellence, strong leadership, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate understanding of non-profit university environment, mission, values, and overall function
  • Comfortable in an Apple Computer environment
