Job Description

The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting performs senior accounting functions and assists in the preparation of financial statements and Management’s Discussions and Analysis (MD&A) for Central 1 together with the financial statements of Central 1’s subsidiaries and associated entities.  The incumbent is also responsible for the consolidation between Central 1 and its subsidiaries and the review of the financial statements of Central 1’s affiliates and subsidiaries to ensure that they are in compliance with current accounting standards.


Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of Central 1’s financial statements and MD&A according to the prescribed timeline.
  • Assist Manager, Consolidations & Reporting in monitoring changes in accounting standards and assessing their impact on subsidiaries and affiliated entities.
  • Conduct research on guidelines for MD&A preparation and consider industry best practice to ensure Central 1’s MD&A always meets the requirements and follows industry best practice.
  • Coordinate with contributors for financial statements and MD&A to ensure timely completion of the documents.
  • Assist Manager, Consolidations & Reporting in performing reviews on the quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A to ensure consistency, accuracy, following guidelines, etc.
  • Performs the consolidation function for Central 1. Ensures that inter-company transactions are properly accounted for.
  • Assist Manager, Consolidations & Reporting in reviewing the financial statements with supporting reconciliations for Central 1’s subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Prepare and/or assist in reviewing of the quarterly reporting packages for Central 1’s Audit and Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Assist Manager, Consolidations & Reporting in the preparation of the financial section of Central 1’s quarterly Variable Incentive Plan update.
  • Prepare and/or assist in review the monthly and quarterly financial statements for Central 1’s subsidiaries and affiliates. The affiliates include Registered Retirement Plan for the Ontario Based Employees of Central 1 and Stabilization Central Credit Union of B.C.
  • Responsible for month end closing for financial reporting purpose.
  • Prepare Group Clearer monthly financial statements package.
  • Monitoring the update of monthly and quarterly timeline.

  • Business Line Reporting

    • Prepare and distribute of financial statement package by business line.
    • Assist in separating balance sheets by business line and compute capital allocation in accordance with Central 1 approved processes under the direction of the Director, Financial Reporting.

    Information Systems Management

    • In the absence of Senior Accountant, Financial System & Reporting, the incumbent assumes the responsibility for Central 1’s accounting system and functions as system administrator of accounting and financial reporting applications used in the Financial Reporting group.

Qualifications

  • A CPA designation and a university degree together with five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills are required for this position.
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills and ability to manage competitive deadlines in a fast pace environment are required.
  • Further essential skills include an aptitude for detail, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
