Job Description

Ubisoft Milan is looking for a Mid/Senior Technical Animator who will collaborate closely with the Animation and Art Team to ensure they are creating the high-quality content with the tools and assets provided and that the pipelines are as efficient as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement gameplay features, take ownership of, and maintain animation state machines.
  • Collaborate with various departments to build compelling gameplay animation systems, serving as the go-to person for all technical animation-related questions and needs.
  • Support the integration of animations into the game engine and ensure they comply with technical constraints.
  • Act as a liaison between animators, gameplay programmers, and designers to facilitate the realization of gameplay features.
  • Identify or, when necessary, develop the best tools and workflows to enhance and support the work of Animators and Artists.
  • Innovate and implement advanced techniques to solve character and animation challenges.
  • Continuously test and iterate in-game, providing feedback and suggestions for improvements.
  • Train animators on workflows, tools, and other aspects of integrating animation assets into the game engine.
  • Offer ongoing technical support for tools and the engine, regularly communicating technical restrictions and their rationale to the animation team.

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and passion for video games.
  • Proven experience in technical animation for video games, with at least one shipped title.
  • Proficiency in rigging and skinning assets.
  • Strong understanding of animation principles and anatomy.
  • Familiarity with the technical limitations and implementation in real-time environments.
  • Scripting skills (e.g., MEL, Python).
  • Experience with animation rigs and runtime systems.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
